Luis Sojo, We Hardly Knew Ye

Luis Sojo was one of the great contact hitters in the history of Venezuelan baseball, with more than 1,500 career hits over 21 seasons for the Cardenales de Lara. But last night, the Tigres de Aragua, for whom The Great Sojo was managing, decided to ditch nostalgia and fired him after a recent bad run; five consecutive losses, two wins in ten games. This permitted their hated rivals, Magallanes, to vault over them into third place. In danger of falling out of playoff contention, Luis paid the price. For the third time in the Venezuelan league, he was relieved of his managerial duties.
